What is Southern Isles LARP?

Established in 2022, Southern Isles LARP is a Live Action Roleplay (LARP) group based in Tasmania.

With members across the state, we hold events in both the north and south on a regular basis to ensure that as many individuals can participate as possible. We are an inclusive, fast-growing community.

Southern Isles LARP events primarily fall into one of two categories: Lore events and Call-to-Arms.

A lore event is often story-driven, and involves interacting and roleplaying with one another as a resident of Alurän. There may be combat events woven into the day’s activities, however the narrative focus of these type of events means that often even the combat forms part of the story.

A Call-to-Arms, on the other hand, may still form a part of the overall narrative of Alurän, however these days are focused on combat games. In most cases, attendees will form warbands and compete against one another in a variety of games such as last person standing, capture the flag, or escorting a VIP to safety. Call to arms events may feature any variety of LARP weapons or even magical mystics casting spells at people!

LARP, or Live-Action Role Play is a form of roleplaying where participants physically portray their characters. Players will dress in costume to suit their character’s role within the setting, and interact with one another in speech and action like in improvisational theatre. Except there isn’t usually an audience for LARP.

LARP combat is performed with prop weapons made from foam or latex. This provides a safe environment to simulate physical combat without putting players at risk of injury from metal weapons.
